I’m not normally one to try to pimp out different websites--I mean, besides my own. I’m just naturally self involved like that.

I mean, hello? I write a blog. Kinda evident on that whole self involved thing.

Anyways, I just thought that this project was too cool not to let other people know about it.

As someone who fancies themselves slightly creative, I love when people give others a chance to shine, a chance to learn and a chance to find a community that often festers and breeds creativity.

One of the things I miss most about my high school years has nothing to do with the high school itself, rather the people I knew during those years. I had a tight knit group of people who were genuinely interested in writing, artistry and in some cases photography. With these people, I’d have long conversations about plots and story lines, was able to bounce ideas off of them, get their feedback, let their genius rub off on me and just generally get involved in that creative process. I mean a lot of my writing back then was done between two people, coming together to write one story.

The project or website that I’m speaking of is called hitRECord.

Obviously it helps having a celebrity involved, however JGL is one of those creative minds that manages to not seem fake or doing it for the money. He seems to really enjoy his work and has made it possible through this website to generate even more creativity.

So I love the idea of things like this, like Deviant Art and what Trent Reznor did with his music, hitRECord manages to continue to bring creative people together, allows them to build and change things. 

Deviant Art gives you a community, a place to get feedback on your art, to meet like minded individuals and provide the same constructive criticism that you need. It’s a place to meet people, to see other talent, to garner ideas and in some cases, learn a lot about how to get that certain shot, or what the best supplies are to do line art.

Trent Reznor did the other side of what this project is about. He set up on his website a place where you could collaborate with what he’s already done to make your own mix, remixing it in whatever way you wanted, however you saw fit. It gave you a basis for people to run with, doing whatever the hell they wanted and making some really progressive and interesting dialogue, opening up the door to inspire even more creativity and life all from one song or piece of music.

HitRECord continues those modern traditions. It opens a pathway for people who expand on each other’s work. To continue to inspire, to mix things up. Two heads are better than one, so fifty may even make it better. It allows you to have resources you never thought possible. To take someone’s idea and run with it, to continue in a different direction or help them achieve what they wanted to do in the first place. It’s like a really great pot luck, everyone adding their own touch to come up with a great meal at the end of the day.
